I've never been partial to pop music, so I had no idea who Lewis Capaldi was when I purchased this pizza. As my partner pointed out he was a singer. But she couldn't actually recall any of his songs, "he's a Scottish guy," was about all the information I got.
Still this brightly coloured orange boxed frozen pizza was priced at £1 in my local Heron shop. Seeing as this blog is all about budget food, I thought I'd give it a go. I mean can a £1 pizza taste good?
As far as the packaging goes, it's pretty funky. In a pop art style I quite like it. I went for the big sexy meaty one- this is actually the name of the pizza. It boasts that it's ready in 16 minutes and the ingredients were not all great, but not exactly terrible with things like nuja sausage, but overall at least it didn't contain any soy.
As far as music goes, when I looked him up his dreary songs really are quite dreadful. I'm not surprised he's venturing out to take a slice of the fast food industry.
Tasting It
the crust was thick and decent with plentiful mozzarella, but it could have done with some cheese on top to hold the pizza toppings together as the meat kept falling off. One downside of frozen pizza.
The meat itself was mildly spicy, it had a little warming kick. The dough wasn't quite sourdough, but it wasn't too bad. Better than some takeaways.
Overall for £1 you can't really complain too much. It was big enough for two people. I did find it quite filling so I'd rate it as a satisfying meal at 7/10.
Obviously, you couldn't eat it everyday. It has high fat content, but in terms of taste I was pleasantly surprised. Which is more than I can say for his music!
I also grabbed myself some reduced burger sauce for 44p which personally I thought was a bargain. It was a Smokey chipotle mayo. And I got 4 bottles of Guinness for £1.49
Heron's is a great place to find good food bargains!
